Artist Profiles

The Nightingale and the Rose

I made three short films for the touring exhibition The Nightingale and the Rose, capturing Del Kathryn Barton and Brendan Fletcher's intense collaboration in making the beautiful animation The Nightingale and the Rose. The way they integrated Del's painting into 2D and 3D animation was mind-bendingly challenging, but makes for a truly sublime work.

The Coloured Sky: New Women II

I spoke to Yang Fudong (with the aid of a translator) about his five-channel video installation, The Coloured Sky: New Women II. We chat about his inspiration, his process and how he dealt with a difficult cast member...note never work with children or horses.

Amanda Schunker

Capturing the process and inspiration of painter Amanda Schunker as she prepares for her latest exhibition. Amanda collects natural elements from her environment like a bower bird to integrate into her abstracted works.

Berlin-based filmmaker Julian Rosefeldt was in town for a few days for the opening of his epic video installation Manifesto created with Cate Blanchett. We managed to snap this interview with him in the middle of a very busy schedule.

Phantom Ride

It's rare I get to work with an artist working and living in Melbourne, so I took the opportunity to spend time with Daniel in his studio and on location with his kooky contraption as he captured the imagery for his multi-channel video installation Phantom Ride.

Sandy Powell

Sandy Powell is a long time collaborator with Martin Scorsese and the Academy Award-winning costumes for Aviator were featured in his exhibition at ACMI. I spoke to Sandy about her process and how character informs the design and conception of a costume.
